What We Do

Morse and Doak is an owner operated business. We work to have at least one of the three owners on each jobsite everyday in order to ensure the quality of the project and to keep each client well informed of the day to day activities of the site. We strive to develop listening relationships with each client that allows for not only a successful project, but also a lifelong relationship. With 30+ years of experience each, we are able to provide leadership, encouragement and assistance to our team of employees and subcontractors to keep each project on track. Our goal is to turn each client’s dreams and desires into a completed project that was envisioned from the beginning.

We are a fully qualified residential building general contractor that has the experience and knowledge for new construction, renovations and additions, and 18th and 19th Century reproductions. Being a general contractor, we are also tasked on each project to head up a team of excellent subcontractors including masons, electricians, plumbers, heating and A/C contractors, excavation contractors, and tile installers. We work closely with each trade to ensure top notch quality work and hold each to the same standards that we hold ourselves too.

Morse and Doak Builders has experience in all types of residential building projects, including: additions, barns, new home construction, post and beam repairs, sill replacement, kitchen and bath remodeling, and all types of existing home repairs. We have also completed new house reproductions of old houses with all modern features as well as old home restorations with modern updating finished subtly to blend and complement the original features. We have had original moldings copied and we have also done raised paneling and feathered edge paneling. We also benefit from a 25+ year relationship with the owners and designers of The Kennebec Company installing their uniquely made and designed fine cabinetry. Although our website highlights several recently completed large projects, we also continue to service new and existing clients with projects that may only last a week, a day or just several hours.

As the building technologies have changed over our 30 year history, we have worked closely with suppliers and vendors to incorporate advanced building techniques and materials into our projects. We work directly with several designers and architects that also keep us astride of these changing technologies. As LEED accreditation and overall GREEN principals become integrated into the residential building trade, we look forward to the challenge of working with clients, engineers, and architects to learn and adapt to these sustainable building standards.

We look forward to talking with you about your upcoming project. Please visit our contacts page for our contact information.

Where We Are

Morse and Doak Builders is located in Woolwich, Maine where each of the owners reside. Our office is located at 37 Route 1 at the end of the Sagadahoc Bridge. We do the majority of our projects within a 30 mile radius of Woolwich, but have and will travel further depending on the project such as a complete renovation of a 19th Century Italianate style farmhouse in Cape Elizabeth featured in the PROJECTS section. We have even traveled by ferry to complete a kitchen and cottage renovation project on Squirrel Island at the mouth of Boothbay Harbor.

History

Elliott Morse and Greg Doak teamed up in August of 1976 as Morse and Doak Woodworkers. Both grew up in homes where their father’s included them on many home repair projects. Elliott’s dad loved antique clocks and was well known in the area as a good clock repairman and historian. Greg’s dad was in the Windjammer business as a part owner of a 58’ wooden schooner built in 1902 and was the driving force in the construction of a 65’ Ferro cement schooner launched in 1975 at the site of Long Reach Shipyard in Bath.

Elliott and Greg started doing mostly repair jobs with the abundance of older homes in the mid-coast area. They learned quickly about old doors, windows, moldings and sills. It was the end of the seventies when they first teamed up with David Leonard and the Kennebec Kitchen Company to do their first Kennebec Kitchen installation. This began a long and respectful relationship with the Kennebec Company that continues today.

In 1980 Bryan Hayward was hired as a summertime employee. Bryan’s good work ethic and knowledge of repair work came from growing up working alongside his father, Frank, on the physical plant of Chop Point Camp and School located in Woolwich. He first worked for Morse and Doak Woodworkers part time and then became a full time employee through the 80's. In 1991 the decision was made to incorporate as Morse and Doak Builders and it was at this time that Bryan became part of the ownership group.

We continue to grow with the core ownership group of Elliott, Greg and Bryan leading the pack with a great group of full time employees and some returning part time employees for the summer season. We hope that our future history will include a project working with you.
